I often visited Peter at home as he lived on South Norwood Hill. Gerald Soane presented his 50 year scroll. I literally sprung him from Mayday hospital on that evening on condition that he went back to the ward! In later years he became housebound and he died at St Peter's home. He was very devout and loved going to Lourdes where he said he had seen his late wife. He once commented "Do you know I dreamt I went in an elevator to heaven. There are non-Catholics up there you know!" On one occasion he said the cat has gone. I said "that's odd it's sitting on that chair". The cat did not like me and dug its claws in! I played for his funeral and the family asked me to go in the car which was kind. He often spent Christmas day with us.
