Simon Grummitt President 2002-3

My notes for the Kirkham Cup. This was the only time I spoke at it and I ran out of time. In those days Norwood would hire a minibus e.g. going to Ramsgate. Having imbibed we would pick up our cars at the church car park and then drive home! It was all great fun. We used to say Norwood had never won the cup but this was untrue - Philip Gummett won it in 1975! There were some brothers who seemed to speak every year e.g. Reg Wilcox of Swanley and John Greenrod!
Simon nearly achieved his target of getting every brother to make at least one visit.
He asked me to be his Vice-President and I readily agreed but there was on hitch at the dinner dance when some of the raffle tickets did not get into the draw! I also found it impossible to cope with cash and handed it all to treasurer Gerry Haines! The annual quiz was much enjoyed and of course the annual sports night against Beckenham which was often a games night at Holy Ghost fathers. Eventually the Grummitts moved away but they did come back for several events. I had taken on the role of publicity officer so kept Catena informed.
I sang part of my speech at clergy supper, I note a recruitment drive at Virgo Fidelis on Nov 1 at our Mass for deceased brothers. We did get some names but nothing came of it. We went to Dulwich's Christmas carol party and our table won!
